EDUCATION SPONSORSHIP

Over the past few years 5miles has had the opportunity and privilege to sponsor the education of children who do not reside in the Towdah orphanages - from preschoolers to school drop-outs to college students.

5miles Tertiary Education Fund sponsors the University and Polytechnic studies of students from underprivileged homes to give them future opportunities to get better jobs and break out of the poverty cycle.

In August 2016, 5miles was approached by PKPA Foundation, a child protection agency based in Nias, to sponsor the education of 32 children. Deprived of an education, each one was made to work in the stone quarries, on the farms and at construction sites to supplement their meagre family/household income of about $50 a month.

Thankfully, via the efforts of PKPA, all 32 children were rescued and given the opportunity to return to school. From 2017 to date, 5miles has been sponsoring teenage students in Nias who were forced to work as scavengers due to their impoverished status.
