EDUCATION SPONSORSHIP

Over the past few years 5miles has had the opportunity and privilege to sponsor the education of children who do not reside in the Towdah orphanages - from preschoolers to school drop-outs to college students. 5miles Tertiary Education Fund sponsors the University and Polytechnic studies of students from underprivileged homes to give them future opportunities to get better jobs and break out of the poverty cycle. Each student is awarded a scholarship of $3000 for a three to four-year course in an institution approved by 5miles. We are currently supporting 3 University students.

In August 2016, 5miles was approached by PKPA Foundation, a child protection agency based in Nias, to sponsor the education of 32 children. Deprived of an education, each one was made to work in the stone quarries, on the farms and at construction sites to supplement their meagre family/household income of about $50 a month.

Thankfully, via the efforts of PKPA, all 32 children were rescued and given the opportunity to return to school.

From 2017 to date, 5miles has been sponsoring teenage students in Nias who were forced to work as scavengers due to their impoverished status. In 2019/2020, we sponsored 14 junior high and senior high students.

Every year we sponsor preschool children who are enrolled at Petra Preschool and from July 2020, we will be sponsoring 11 preschool students and 15 primary school children attending both Petra Cahaya Kasih Primary School and Calisa Primary School.

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
