CAFE FLAVA BINTAN

In April 2018, 5miles opened a coffee shop called Warung 541 in Tanjung Uban, Bintan, to provide business opportunities for those in need. The space was given to families rent-free and capital for equipment provided to give the families a headstart. The coffee shop doubled up as a soup kitchen to prepare cooked food for the needy. The food is then distributed to various communities so that the children and their parents will not go hungry and get the proper nutrition they all need.

In June 2020, DB Kitchen was born, a social enterprise run by an executive chef Vincent Kwek and his team of professional cooks. In October 2020, Vincent Kwek began his plans to revamp DB Kitchen and transform it into a trendy cafe called Cafe Flava. He was in the midst of renovating the cafe when he passed away unexpectedly on 28 November 2020. Vincent was a philanthropist and a friend of Towdah. He always thought of the children/s well-being and future and left behind a legacy that we are all grateful for. The children at the orphanage now manage Cafe Flava in Vincent's memory.

Cafe Flava remains a social enterprise and continues to serve as a training centre for our older Towdah children who learn the ropes of running a restaurant, managing budgets and resources, as well as culinary skills.
